The Responsible HPC conference in Reykjavík, hosted by Borealis Data Center and the EuroCC project National Competence Center for HPC and AI in Iceland, in co-operation with the University of Iceland, was an in-depth and informative gathering on the future of HPC (High-Performance Computing) with regards to responsible data centers, applications, HPC as a service, research, and funding of all the promising possibilities we can expect of HPC.
Key themes raised at the conference were: How business is developing solutions and portraying use cases to highlight the importance of HPC and AI (Artificial Intelligence). And in conjunction how academia in turn is developing and honing skills that will guide future entrepreneurs towards taking the next step in the field.
Some exciting developments were highlighted in talks given by representatives of Rescale, a company that provides powerful tools that allow users, amongst other things, to choose Responsible HPC as a service. Delivering sustainable, high-performance compute solutions on demand in the cloud.
And as part of this flourishing mixture of innovation and industry are intergovernmental institutions, such as EuroHPC, that help develop pathways for startups, SMEs, and institutions to have access to large scale HPC and AI infrastructure, making sure they can develop services and products in a responsible way while maintaining a competitive edge.
With such a diverse host of speakers, the conference managed to capture the unique viewpoints of different stakeholders, showing the diversity and complexity of HPC and many of the underlying attributes that are driving its development and application.
With lectures from: academia, business, institutions, and independent organizations the day was a holistic take on the future of HPC - going forward as a responsible and sustainable enterprise.
