Borealis Data Center along with Nordic IT service provider Origo have announced their joint venture and new company, Responsible Compute, which will deliver sustainable HPC solutions in cooperation with Rescale, an American company that specializes in high performance computing (HPC) solutions in the cloud.
The sustainable infrastructure at Responsible Compute will allow Rescale to provide customers with unprecedented access to carbon neutral computing allowing them to run massive compute workloads, powered by hydro and geothermal energy, in a responsible and sustainable way.
“As the importance of computation in modern R&D and engineering increases, businesses are looking for new ways to improve operational efficiency, decrease environmental impact, and provide accurate reporting of carbon footprint and sustainability metrics,” said Joris Poort, CEO and Founder of Rescale.
The addition of the Responsible Compute infrastructure provides new options for companies to meet sustainability objectives in their computational science and engineering efforts and is part of Rescale’s commitment towards sustainability and innovation.
“We expect to see continued growth in demand for sustainable computing solutions. Rescale will continue to give customers the tools to optimize the cost and performance of their applications in the cloud, now with the added capability of optimizing for an environmentally sustainable future.”
Responsible Compute will provide the sustainable HPC infrastructure needed via the Borealis data center campus in northern Iceland running on 100% renewable energy using hydroelectric power. Responsible Compute will deliver carbon-free solutions along with market-leading emissions reporting and world-class performance.
“We aim to provide a truly sustainable solution with class-leading carbon reporting based on standardized methods of calculation. This allows our customers to reduce their carbon footprint, evaluate their emissions evolution and take appropriate steps to further their journey towards carbon neutrality.” said Kristjan Hafsteinsson, Managing Director of Responsible Compute.
