Stefán Örn Kristjánsson Joins Borealis Data Center as Chief Operating Officer
December 09, 2025

Reykjavík, Iceland - Borealis Data Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Stefán Örn Kristjánsson as Chief Operating Officer (Operations Division). Stefán joins Borealis after a 22-year career at Össur, where in recent years he held a key role as Vice President of Global Manufacturing, responsible for operating the company’s manufacturing units in Reykjavík, Mexico, Scotland, and the United States.
Stefán is a mechanical engineer by training, holding B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Iceland, and he pursued further graduate studies at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. From 2022 to 2024 he also served as an alternate member of the board of the Federation of Icelandic Industries (Samtök iðnaðarins).
Borealis places strong emphasis on operating sustainable data centers in the Nordic region. The company runs three data centers in Iceland—at Blönduós, Fitjar in Reykjanesbær, and Korputorg in Reykjavík—as well as a facility in Kajaani, Finland.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Stefán to the team. He brings a wealth of experience in international operations, leadership, safety and quality systems, and technical implementation. His strategic mindset and proven track record in building high-performing teams will be a great asset as Borealis continues to grow and as the data-center industry evolves in Iceland.” says Björn Brynjúlfsson, cofounder and CEO of Borealis Data Center.
Borealis Data Center has provided data-center services in Iceland for more than a decade and builds on the country’s key strengths: green energy, a favorable climate, and strong workforce that together create excellent conditions for digital infrastructure. In recent years the company has expanded its service offering and increasingly provided more specialized services, including tailored infrastructure solutions for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. The company is now growing rapidly and has invested significantly in further development of its sites. To support accelerating demand, Borealis expanded into Finland in early 2024, where the local government and industry have worked systematically in recent years to cultivate a robust data center ecosystem.
“This is an exciting time to join a company like Borealis, in a sector that’s scaling rapidly and becoming increasingly important,” says Stefán. “I’m excited to help grow and strengthen this emerging industry in Iceland and the Nordics. It’s a rare opportunity to help shape a new area of expertise and take part in large-scale projects that will have a lasting impact on the digital landscape.”
