Above and just beyond the atmosphere satellites cruise along their trajectory busy receiving and sending data. And these reliable, though often forgotten, transmitters of our modern digital age need secure and sustainable ground stations to receive and process this data stream from space.
Borealis Data Center and Leaf Space have come to an agreement involving the hosting and operation of such satellite communications equipment, antenna stations and other technical equipment that receives and processes data from satellites in orbit. The ground station along with other equipment is located at Borealis Data Center in Blönduós, Iceland.
Access to green energy and secure infrastructure at Borealis Data Center, together with its ideal location at Blönduós, will allow Leaf Space to service a wide area while communicating with satellites in the Arctic in a sustainable and secure manner. Leaf Space specializes in satellite communications and services companies that need access to orbiting satellites around the planet.
Jonata Puglia, CEO of Leaf Space, said on the occasion:
"The location of the ground station in Iceland is exceptionally good and allows us to cover a large area in the Arctic. Good internet connection and access to Borealis Data Center service is a key factor for our overall solution. A new station in Iceland is a big step towards meeting the needs of our customers in terms of distribution and sustainability as well as expanding our services worldwide."
The ground station is part of a wider network operated by Leaf Space and condenses the distribution area in the northern hemisphere and minimizes the waiting time for satellite data in close cooperation with Borealis Data Center.
"It is a pleasure to add data processing from space at Blönduós and the agreement with Leaf Space is a confirmation of the advantages and infrastructure the location offers. Borealis is now able to serve the growing space business along with our new partners at Leaf Space," said Björn Brynjúlfsson, CEO of Borealis Data Center. "The support from the local community and the municipality have been essential for our development in the area, giving Borealis Data Center the competitive edge that is based on its secure location, green energy, security of supply, along with the good Icelandic air, perfectly suited for cooling computer equipment."
